This blog post brings SAGE Campus' eight courses on ‘Getting Published’ and how you can join the 'How to Get Published' free webinar series to complement your publishing journey.

SAGE Campus understands the challenges researchers face at the early stage of their careers. We gathered our SAGE experience and content quality to create 8 robust, structured online courses that are self-paced and accessible anywhere.

The courses are designed for both early-career researchers who need guidance and more experienced researchers wanting to keep up with any changes in the publishing landscape. Rachel Crookes, Associate Director, SAGE Campus, has spoken about the ‘Getting Published’ courses during their launch and gave some insights about the main stages of the publishing journey. In addition, you will find how we mapped the courses onto learner pathways according to their learning outcomes in this blog post.

Getting published learner pathways

All courses are self-paced and stand-alone. However, we’ve mapped them onto learner pathways that focus on specific learning outcomes in order to provide more guidance about how the courses fit together.

  1. Learn about the journal publishing landscape

This pathway is introductory and aimed at academics and researchers looking to get published in a journal for the first time. No prior publication experience is required. Although the courses are foundational, they also provide new, up-to-date and helpful guidance to more experienced researchers who want to publish their research.

The 4 courses under this learner pathway, in this order: Introduction to Journal Publishing, Publishing for Impact, Choosing a Journal, and Article Acceptance to Promotion, will teach an overview of journal publishing, informing researchers on how to take advantage of different publishing opportunities, how to ensure their research has the widest impact in the most relevant journal, and how to promote it for the widest reach.

  2. Learn to write a journal article that will get published

This pathway is also introductory and aimed at academics and researchers looking to get published in a journal for the first time, but can also be taken by more experienced researchers looking for a refresher.

The 4 courses under this learner pathway, in this order: How to Write a Journal Article 1, How to Write a Journal Article 2, Submission and Final Touches, and Peer Review, Feedback and Decisions, will teach an overview of writing and formatting a journal article, giving examples and strategies to structure and finalise a high-quality article. Researchers will be taught how to navigate the peer review process and respond to feedback in order to prepare an article and increase the chances of it getting accepted for publication.
